Becoming a new mom is a beautiful, life-changing experience—but let’s be honest, sleep can become a rare luxury! Between late-night feedings, diaper changes, and the sweet (but unpredictable) sleep patterns of a newborn, rest can feel out of reach. The good news? The right sleep products can make a huge difference. That’s why I have put together this list of top rated products. Please keep in mind that I am no professional, as a first time mom myself, I only want to help other moms by providing my honest opinions on popular baby products.

Here are the top 10 baby sleep essentials to help soothe your little one—and give you some much-needed shut-eye too.
1. Bassinet
Why it’s a lifesaver: As a new mom let’s face it, you are on edge. Constantly checking on your baby, making sure they are still breathing – it is no joke! A bedside bassinet allows you to keep your newborn baby close and safe for all night monitoring. There are so many expensive options, but I honestly found that unnecessary. As long as the bassinet was a good height next to my bed, and was safe then there was no need to be spending hundreds (or thousands!) of dollars on a bassinet they would only use for a few short months.
Top Pick: Simmons Kids By The Bed City Sleeper Bassinet – Adjustable Height Portable Crib with Wheels & Airflow Mesh.
2. Swaddle Blankets
Why it’s a must-have: Swaddling helps prevent the startle reflex that can wake a sleeping baby. It also gives them the snug, secure feeling they had in the womb. There are a lot of options for swaddle blankets but these are our top pick. The fabric is next level and really helps keep the swaddle tight. Not to mention they also come in a lot of great patterns.
Top Pick: Copper Pearl Swaddle Blanket – Allows for self-soothing while still keeping baby safely swaddled.
3. Bassinet Sheets
Why it’s helpful: A bassinet keeps your baby close for nighttime feedings while ensuring a safe sleep environment. These sheets are both affordable, soft and fit the bassinet mattress like a glove.
Top Pick: Stretchy Ultra Soft Fitted Bassinet Sheet 2 Pack, Universal Fit for Bassinets
4. Gentle Night Light
Why they matter: Soft lighting makes nighttime feeds or diaper changes less disruptive. Look for red or warm amber tones that won’t mess with melatonin production. The Hatch Rest was perfect as a night light and doubles as a sound machine. The app is user friendly and has a lot of options for you to curate a bedtime routine that works for you and your little one.
Top Pick: Hatch Rest – Baby Sound Machine, Night Light
5. Velcro Swaddle
Why they’re great: Swaddling your baby can be challenging. The nurses make it look so easy, then you get home and you’re like “How does my baby keep escaping the swaddle?!”. Velcro swaddles are a great alternative to the traditional swaddles. I also found it really helpful to use when transitioning baby from swaddle to sleep sack.
Top Pick: The Ollie Swaddle – Breathable, Moisture-Wicking Fabric to Prevent Overheating
6. Sleep Sacks
Why you’ll love them: When your baby starts rolling and can no longer be swaddled, sleep sacks keep them warm and secure without loose blankets. Once again our favorite was Copper Pearl, in addition to the high quality fabric they have so many fun designs!
Top Pick: Copper Pearl Sleep Bag – Lightly weighted to mimic your touch.
7. Portable Sound Machine
Why it’s a lifesaver: Babies are used to the comforting whoosh of the womb, so white noise helps mimic that safe, cozy environment. It also drowns out household noises that could wake your baby. This portable sound machine is ready for on the go use! Easily take it with you out on a walk or when you go out to eat.
Top Pick: Portable Sound Machine for Baby – Soothing Natural Sounds with Volume Control, Compact Size
8. Crib & Mattress
Why it matters: A firm, flat surface is essential for safe infant sleep. A dual-sided mattress grows with your child—firm for infants, softer for toddlers. The size of your crib may vary depending on how much space you have available. We have a very small space so we opted for a mini crib – a 4-in-1 convertible crib that will grow with our baby over the years.
Mattress (full size crib): Newton Baby Crib Mattress – Breathable and washable.
Mattress (mini crib): DaVinci Complete Slumber Mini Crib Mattress– Firm support, Lightweight, Waterproof
Top Pick (Mini Crib): DaVinci Kalani 4-in-1 Convertible Mini Crib – Converts crib to toddler bed, day bed and twin bed!
9. Baby Monitor
Why it’s useful: Peace of mind is priceless. Monitors let you keep a close eye on your baby while they sleep and some offer data on sleep patterns. Personally I wanted a baby monitor that did not connect to WiFi. I might be a little over cautious but this baby monitor works great for my family.
Top Pick: Infant Optics DXR-8 PRO Video Baby Monitor – No WiFi, Pan Tilt Zoom, and Interchangeable Lenses
10. Nighttime Diapers
Why it helps: Quality overnight diapers are a MUST for me. I would have a stash of nighttime only diapers set aside because there is nothing worse than opening a swaddle or sleep sack to a big stinky surprise! Leaky diapers are a no for me, especially when baby starts sleeping longer periods of time throughout the night. There are a lot of great options however, our family was gifted a box of these Coterie diapers and they blew us away. It is now my favorite item to gift new parents, a box of high quality diapers! These are a little pricey but to have 1 box for overnight diapers or long car rides was worth it to me.
Top Pick: Coterie Diapers – A fast wicking, highly absorbent diaper with clean ingredients.
Final Thoughts:
Sleep struggles are totally normal in the early days—but the right tools can make things smoother (and more restful). Every baby is different, so what works for one might not work for another.
